Commission on Chicago Landmarks met Thursday, Feb. 2.

NOTICE OF A REGULAR MEETING

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 12:45 p.m. in City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A, 2nd Floor.

The Permit Review Committee will hold its regular meeting in City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, in Room 201-A on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 1:15 p.m.

Summary of projects and staff recommendations, February 2, 2017

1. Pullman National Monument 9th Ward

Pullman District

Informational Only: Updates on National Park Service Planning Projects at Pullman.

Proposed rehabilitation of single-family home including repair of existing side porch and construction of a new 1-story screen porch to the south elevation.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Committee find that the project, with the following conditions, meets the criteria set forth in the

Commission’s Rules and Regulations, the Commission’s Guidelines for Alterations to Historic Buildings and New Construction, and Standards 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10 of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings and therefore, the project will not have an adverse effect on the significant historical and architectural features of the landmark property and district and approve the project with the following conditions:

1. As proposed, all wood is to be painted or stained; and,

2. The painted masonry shall be cleaned with the gentlest effective means, and the applicant shall provide any chemical cleaning product specifications and material safety data sheet with any environmental cleaning application. Historic Preservation staff shall to be notified to view and approve a test sample.

East Village District

Proposed rehabilitation of single-family home including extension of existing dormers and new construction of a two-story rear addition.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Committee find that the project, with the following conditions, meets the criteria set forth in the Commission’s Rules and Regulations, the Commission’s Guidelines for Alterations to Historic Buildings and New Construction, and Standards 9 and 10 of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings and therefore, the project will not have an adverse effect on the significant historical and architectural features of the landmark property and district and approve the project with the following conditions:

1. Visible elevations of the existing dormers shall be re-clad in horizontal wood siding with a 4” reveal. Fiber cement siding for the dormer extensions shall have a smooth finish and a 4” reveal.
