GOP says Pritzker's house is built on hypocrisy

Gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker doesn't want to pay his own taxes, but he'd like everyone else in Illinois to pay more, the Illinois GOP argued in a press release recently.

At a public forum in Oak Park, the Democratic billionaire voiced his opposition to a property tax freeze, and his campaign recently made that position official in a press release that also indicates his support for taxing all federally taxable retirement income, the GOP said. Pritzker has also called for increasing the state income tax rate.

Meanwhile, it was revealed recently that Pritzker saved $230,000 through a property tax appeal and what appears to be efforts to game vacancy relief rules, the GOP said

Pritzker, a venture capitalist and heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune, purchased the mansion next to his own residence and, several years later, appealed the property’s valuation assessment on the grounds that the home was both uninhabitable, as it had no working kitchen and the toilets had been uninstalled, and vacant. Along with an appeal of the valuation of his main residence, the appeal won him more than $230,000 in tax relief and refunds from previous years’ bills, the GOP said.
