Democrats are "following the playbook," keeping their hold on power while ignoring the pleas of the people, a Belleville News-Democrat editorial argued recently.
The editorial was featured in a press release from the Illinois Republican Party.
“They point fingers at (Gov. Bruce) Rauner and say 700 days have passed without a long-term spending bill,” the editorial said. “Well whose fault is that? Who is responsible for passing a spending bill? Who has allowed three years to pass without figuring out a budget bill? Who controls the Illinois House? Who is likely to go through the 2018 gubernatorial election without doing their duty, as mandated by the Illinois Constitution, to deliver a balanced budget bill to the governor’s desk?”
The editorial mocks press conferences Democrats are holding with Illinoisans who are hurt by the budget impasse, including those by Reps. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) and LaToya Greenwood (D-East St. Louis), who held an event at a senior day care center at risk of running out of funding.
“They care about politics,” the editorial said. “They don’t care about the pain or their fannies would be in Springfield doing the jobs they were elected to do.”
