Party unity is one thing, but House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) and Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker appear to be reading off the same script in attacking the GOP's recent budget proposal, the Illinois Republican Party said in a press release.
"... Madigan’s office wasted no time criticizing compromise," the Illinois GOP said in the release. "As the News-Gazette Editorial Board notes, 'the words were hardly out of the governor's mouth before' Madigan started “casting aspersions” on a compromise budget and reform deal. And just yesterday, J.B. Pritzker issued a press release criticizing a speech he had yet to even listen to, attacking Governor Rauner."
Rauner worked with Republicans in the General Assembly to create and budget plan that they promoted as a compromise between previous proposals from both parties. According to the Illinois GOP release, the plan includes measures championed by the Democrats and concessions from the Republicans and would “balance the budget, grow jobs and reform state government.”

In a statement published on Capitol Fax, Pritzker argued that the plan doesn’t include any compromises.
GOP spokesperson Steven Yaffe pointed out that Pritzker’s campaign website does not include any concrete proposals for solving the state’s financial problems. Instead of considering measures like term limits, pension reforms and spending caps, Pritzker’s lays out vague spending increases, which contradicts his criticisms of Rauner’s proposal, according to Yaffe.
