Gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker is backing the Chicago-biased school funding bill because he cares more about his career than schoolchildren, the Illinois Republican Party said.
In a press release, the Illinois GOP points to comments Pritzker made during a Facebook live appearance at which he said that he fully supported the bill as offered by the Democratic majority. Gov. Bruce Rauner has since used an amendatory veto to strip it of payments for Chicago Public Schools' pensions.
“J.B. Pritzker ... knows that a Chicago bailout hurts children across Illinois by redistributing their tax dollars towards a broken pension system without reform, but he doesn’t care," the GOP said in the press release. "Pritzker is willing to hurt children in order to maintain his good favor with Mike Madigan’s Chicago machine.”
