Chicago FD responds to 159 fires in 2016

Chicago Fire Department responded to 181 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Chicago City Wire.

The calls in Chicago included 159 fires - five structure fires, two vehicle fires and three other fires. The fire department also responded to 149 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $55,041,435 in fire loss - or about $346,173 per fire.

The department also received 22 false calls, including one malicious call and 21 other false calls.

The calls resulted in 124 civilian fire-related injuries and 20 civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, 122 fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and 67 were injured in non fire-related incidents.
