J.B. Pritzker and Mike Madigan have become quite the item, according to the lllinois Republican Party.
The GOP said in a recent press release that Pritzker is so tied to the House speaker that he couldn’t utter a negative word about him during a recent forum of Democratic candidates for governor. The political hopefuls were asked whether Madigan had held onto power too long.
While Chris Kennedy acknowledged that Madigan’s positions as a state leader who influences property law and a high-powered property tax appeals lawyer pose something of a conflict, Pritzker refrained from agreeing or even responding.

Soon after Pritzker formally launched his campaign in early April, the Chicago Tribune described him as Madigan’s “favored candidate” from a Democratic field that also includes Sen. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) and Chicago Alderman Ameya Pawar.
The 75-year-old Madigan was elected to the House of Representatives in 1970 and has served as speaker since 1977.
