Cost of college went up for resident students at City Colleges of Chicago-Kennedy-King College

In-state tuition and fees rose 13.4 percent for 2018-19 at City Colleges of Chicago-Kennedy-King College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $9,216 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $1,090 more than the $8,126 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 25.3 percent more than residents this year, or $11,544. Their price tag was reduced 3 percent from $11,906 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. About 2 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 311 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.6 million and 27 students took out student loans totaling more than $147,351.

Including all undergraduates (3,136), 1,682 students used grants or scholarships totaling $6.7 million, and 260 students took out $1 million in federal student loans.
