Krupa on State GOP chair's departure: 'I’m not sad to see him go. In fact, I’m elated'

David Krupa doesn’t mince words about seeing Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider step down after nearly seven years in power.

“I’m not sad to see him go. In fact, I’m elated,” the 13th Ward Committeeman told Chicago City Wire. “It’s probably the best thing that could happen to the Republican Party and the state of Illinois. I think Tim Schneider has proven himself incapable of being chairman and under his leadership the party has become as weak as ever.”

While Schneider described his time at the helm as a period of party reform and a time where members rallied around their conservative values, Krupa argues a change in direction can’t come soon enough for the party.

“Under new leadership, we can retake control of the party and move away from people that only look out for themselves,” he said. “It’s time to become the real party of the people. I really don’t think he’s been tough enough on matters like allowing Art Jones to run for Congress as a Nazi in the 3rd Congressional District. I also blame him for not putting a Republican in every race in the state. Things like that should never happen.”

Finally, Krupa said he looks forward to the day when the chairmanship is chaired by someone with the courage to stand up to the likes of longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan.

“People like Schneider have refused to take on the machine at every turn,” he said. “I want to see a chairman that’s willing to stand up for what we believe in.”

Schneider is set to continue in his role until a new chairman selected with a group of State Central Committee members begins the search process, which could happen as early as next month.
