CHICAGO – Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Officer Luis M. Huesca in a statement released today. Officer Huesca was a member of the 5th District/Priority Response Team and was a victim of senseless gun violence in the city.

"We are deeply mourning the death of Officer Luis M. Huesca of the 5th District/Priority Response Team following an act of unconscionable gun violence in our city," Mayor Johnson stated, highlighting the gravity of the situation. He emphasized, "No family or community should ever have to suffer such pain."

The Mayor personally met with Officer Huesca’s mother and uncle to offer his condolences and support during this difficult time. "I met with Officer Huesca’s mother and uncle this morning and assured them that they have the full support of my administration as they deal with this unspeakable loss," Mayor Johnson shared.

Expressing solidarity with the grieving city, Mayor Johnson extended his condolences to Officer Huesca's family, colleagues, and the community at large. "Our city is grieving, and our condolences go out to their entire family as well as Luis’ fellow officers and community," he said.

In response to the tragic incident, Mayor Johnson affirmed that the Office of Community Safety, in collaboration with Superintendent Larry Snelling and the Chicago Police Department, is fully committed to pursuing justice. "My Office of Community Safety, in collaboration with Supt. Larry Snelling and the Chicago Police Department, is committed to putting every resource available toward apprehending anyone involved in this morning's shooting and bringing them to justice," Mayor Johnson assured.

As the investigation unfolds, Mayor Johnson pledged to provide timely updates to the public. "As the investigation continues, we will provide immediate updates as they become available," he promised.
