The Chicago Board of Ethics announced on Mar. 9 that twelve registered lobbyists were found in violation of city law for not re-registering or terminating their registration for 2026 and failing to file required fourth quarter activity reports for 2025. The board said these individuals will be fined $250 for each day they remain out of compliance, starting from February 20, 2026.
This action underscores the board’s role in promoting ethical standards and transparency within city government, which is intended to enhance public trust, according to the official website. The board aims to administer and enforce governmental ethics and campaign financing rules to prevent conflicts of interest among city officials and employees, as reported by the official website.
The lobbyists named in the announcement are Corryn Bradley, Jarryd Davis, Jarae Hines, Craig Katz, Richard Mell, Monica Mueller, Mai-Anh Pham, Kevin Schuyler, Courtney Toretto, Karen Tamley, LaShonta Thompson, and Rahmaan Williams. According to the press release: “Pursuant to §§2-156-465(b)(3) and -505 of the Governmental Ethics Ordinance, the following registered lobbyists were determined to have violated their lobbyist filing requirements… They will be assessed fines of $250 for each day they are not in compliance, beginning February 20, 2026.”
The Chicago Board of Ethics operates within municipal boundaries and includes an executive director selected by the mayor along with seven members who serve unpaid staggered four-year terms according to the official website. The board also issues formal advisory opinions and maintains public records dating back to 1986 according to its long-standing commitment.
By adjudicating violations such as these and issuing advisory opinions on governmental ethics ordinances according to its policy influence, the board continues its oversight efforts. Observers may expect continued enforcement actions as part of ongoing efforts to uphold ethical conduct among those interacting with city government.
