New Genesis Assembly of God Baptist Church, located at 1400 N. Laramie Ave. in the Austin neighborhood, has been officially designated as a Chicago landmark by the City Council.
The church was originally designed by architect Moritz F. Strauch and finished in 1924 under the name Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The building underwent construction in several phases until 1949, resulting in its distinctive Neo-Gothic style. Among its architectural highlights are an exterior made from Lannon stone and a four-story tower that contains bells cast in 1898.
In 1997, the New Genesis Assembly of God congregation began using the building. With this new designation, all exterior elevations of the structure will be protected under city ordinance.
