Chicago Fire FC II falls to New York City FC II in high-scoring match

Chicago Fire FC II lost 5-4 to New York City FC II at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday night. Despite the defeat, Chicago Fire FC II remains in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Jason Shokalook scored three goals for Chicago, while David Poreba added his second goal of the season. The match began with Dylan Borso advancing up the right side and taking a shot that was saved, but Shokalook followed up to score in the 27th minute. Five minutes later, Shokalook netted his second after receiving a pass from Jhoiner Montiel.

New York City FC II reduced the deficit with an own goal in the 37th minute and tied the game in the 54th minute through Sebastiano Musu. Chicago regained the lead when Poreba converted a free kick from Montiel in the 70th minute. However, Musu scored twice more for New York, including one from a penalty kick.

Shokalook completed his hat trick in the 80th minute after Trip Fleming headed the ball into his path. The final goal came from Camilo Ponce of New York City FC II in the 89th minute.

The match saw several yellow cards issued: Dowd (3’), Diouf (48’), Williams (64’) for Chicago; Ponce (89’) and Musu (90+3’) for New York.

Chicago Fire FC II will next play Philadelphia Union II at Subaru Park on Sunday, September 21 at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on MLSNEXTPro.com.
