Eric Daugherty, chief content officer for Florida Voice News, said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s plan to criminally prosecute federal ICE and Border Patrol agents ignores the U.S. Constitution and Supremacy Clause.

“Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is being called out as an idiot for setting up the criminal prosecution of ICE and Border agents,” said Daugherty. “He forgot something called the United States Constitution and Supremacy Clause exists. Johnson should resign.”

According to Daugherty, the statement was posted on X along with a video clip from Mayor Johnson’s press conference announcing the executive order. The post raised concerns about the policy’s constitutionality and highlighted potential conflicts between local and federal authority in immigration enforcement.

Chicago reported a significant decrease in its homicide count for 2025, reaching 416 cases—a 29 percent drop from 2024 and the lowest figure in 60 years. Despite this reduction, violent crime rates remained high compared to other major U.S. cities, with shootings decreasing by 35 percent to 1,850 incidents. This decline followed investments in community violence intervention but continued to strain local law enforcement resources.

Cook County property tax bills for Chicago homeowners increased by a median of 16.7 percent in 2025, marking the largest hike in at least three decades. Black and Latino neighborhoods on the South and West Sides experienced the most significant burden, with some areas witnessing increases exceeding 80 percent. This shift resulted from declining commercial values downtown transferring more tax load to residential properties.

Federal officers can invoke Supremacy Clause immunity to avoid state prosecution if their actions are deemed necessary and proper for fulfilling federal duties. States must demonstrate that conduct exceeded official scope to overcome this protection. This doctrine safeguards federal operations from local interference, as established in historical Supreme Court precedents.

He began his journalism career as an intern at Florida’s Voice in 2021 and advanced to Chief Content Officer.
