Veteran Alderman Ed Burke’s run as Chicago’s longest-serving lawmaker appears safe after he bagged at least 54 percent of the vote in Tuesday night’s election.
Despite being under federal indictment, incumbent Ed Burke won the 14th Ward alderman race Tuesday night, bringing in 3,759 votes to second-place finisher's Tanya G. Patino's 2,075 with all 31 precincts reporting.
Longtime Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, who faces a single count of attempted extortion released in a federal criminal complaint unsealed Thursday, told reporters later that day that he is not guilty of the charge.
