Rush University was recognized on Apr. 7 in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate School Rankings, with its College of Nursing and College of Health Sciences placing among the top five programs nationally.
The rankings are considered significant as they reflect national recognition for Rush University’s educational offerings and affirm its position as a leading institution for training health care professionals.
Robert S.D. Higgins, president and chief academic officer at Rush University, said, “Rush University continues to provide a dedicated clinical and educational focus on training our next generation of health care providers and leaders who will make an impact at the bedside, in our labs and throughout the field of health care.” He added, “These rankings reaffirm our commitment to ensuring students receive the highest-quality education possible while learning and training at Rush University.”
The College of Nursing was ranked No. 3 overall in the Doctor of Nursing Practice category after U.S. News evaluated more than 600 nursing schools nationwide this year. Its DNP specialty tracks were also highly rated: DNP Administration Programs (No. 2), Family Nurse Practitioner (No. 4), DNP Leadership Programs (No. 4), Gerontology Acute Care (No. 3), Gerontology Primary Care Programs (No. 4), Pediatric Primary Care Programs (No. 3), and Psychiatric/Mental Health (No. 2). The Nurse Anesthesia program placed No. 27, while the Generalist Entry Master’s program ranked No. 29 nationally.
Christine Kennedy, dean of the College of Nursing, said, “I am extremely proud of the College of Nursing and the recognition of its doctoral programs whose education is rooted in excellence.” She continued, “These rankings reflect the commitment of our faculty and staff who work hard to ensure our students receive an education that will ultimately help them become leaders and advance health care.” In January, U.S News also ranked Rush’s online master’s nursing program ninth nationwide.
The College of Health Sciences saw four programs earn spots in this year’s list: Health Systems Management ranked fifth; Audiology-Doctorate ninth; Occupational Therapy fifteenth; Speech-Language Pathology twenty-seventh.
Jason Turner, dean of the College of Health Sciences said, “I am honored to see our programs be recognized nationally by our peers.” Turner added that his college is dedicated to creating a learning environment where students can thrive “and learn how to better health for all.” Additionally, Rush Medical College was placed in tier two for research by U.S News this year.
Rush University forms part of Rush University System for Health along with other facilities such as Rush Copley Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital—a system integrating patient care with education and research initiatives.
