Champaign City Council issued the following announcement on May 1.
The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to the initial report of two vehicles and landscape mulch on fire at 2802 Bloomington Road, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 2:24 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found seven vehicles on fire in the parking lot.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire driven by the wind. Over twenty vehicles ultimately sustained damage from this fire.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue their scene examination.
