City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission met April 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order

President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Those present: Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, Bill Austin, Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, Kathy Young. No absentees.

II. Agenda Items

Laurie Swanson moved and Tony Asta seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried. Mike Bock moved and Dee Hicks seconded that the February 26 minutes be approved. Motion carried.

III. Agenda Item

Golf ball project. Laurie Swanson will talk to Arin Thrower about displaying the community ball somewhere in City Hall. It was suggested that it be displayed throughout Wheaton during the summer. The Burning Bush will be featuring original art from the golf ball artists the week of June 30. This would be an ideal spot to display the ball. This project will be named: Wheaton Fine Arts Commission featuring the Summer of Golf Artists

The USGA golf ball has been sent to them. Mike Bock will request that a photo be taken in the museum in New Jersey and sent to us. He is also checking on a waiver.

IV. Agenda Item

Wheaton Festival of Cultures 2019. Wheaton Community Relations Commission will be heading up this project and has asked for assistance. The festival will feature music, dance, food, and other ethnic events. There will be two stages presenting various programs. Laurie Swanson moved and Kathy Young seconded that we appropriate $500 towards stage sponsorship. Motion passed. Our commission will also sponsor a contest for high school art students to promote this festival. Tony Asta will create a passout for the students to include rules, timeframe, art format to be submitted to the printer, and any other guidelines. This design will be used for the printing of any promotional materials. An award of $100 will be presented to the winner. Laurie Swanson will check with Arin Thrower regarding legal stipulations. Bill Austin will contact the Wheaton schools. Mike Bock is checking with the City about a waiver regarding the art project.

Kathy Young moved and Sarah seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 7:15. Motion passed. Next meeting scheduled for April 23 at 6:00 p.m.
