Q1 2019 Recap: Parolees in Chicago convicted of crimes involving weapons

There were 403 offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons released on parole in Chicago during the first quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chicago City Wire.

The data shows that 395 men and eight women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons, five were veterans, and the median age was 30. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced in 2018, and the oldest was a 69-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Mark Campbell. He was convicted of a crime involving one or more weapons in 2005 when he was 36 years old. He is now 51.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below shows the 50 cities in Illinois with the most paroled offenders in Q1 2019 who were convicted of crimes involving weapons.
