There were three offenders convicted of homicide released on parole near Illinois zip code 60612 during the first quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chicago City Wire.

The data shows that three men were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for homicide was 61. The youngest parolee was a 53-year-old man sentenced in 2006, and the oldest was a 73-year-old man sentenced in 1972.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Charles Smith. He was convicted of homicide in 1972 when he was 26 years old. He is now 73.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
