Village of Cherry Valley Liquor Commission met Nov. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Chairman Jim E. Claeyssen called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.

A roll call was taken by Village Clerk Kathy Trimble:

Also present: Trustee David Schroeder, Trustee Jeff O’Hara, Trustee Jeff Fustin, Attorney Roxanne Sosnowski, Attorney Darron Burke, Police Chief Robert Swank, Court Reporter Deb Fisher, Police Officer Austin Richards, Police Officer Andy Paulson and Village Clerk Kathy Trimble.

ADOPT THE AGENDA: Trustee Hollembeak moved to adopt the agenda. Trustee Belt seconded. All “Aye”; none opposed. Motion carried.

APPROVE THE MINUTES: Trustee Belt moved to approve the minutes of November 4, 2019. Trustee Hollembeak seconded. All “Aye’”; none opposed. Motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT: No one has signed up for Public Comment.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. The Liquor Commission held a hearing regarding a possible motion for Revocation or Suspension of Class A, E, G, K & L Liquor Licenses for The Cherry Bowl located at 7171 Cherryvale N. Blvd, Rockford, IL. Mr. Don Sommer and Mr. Brad Sommer, representatives from the Cherry Bowl, were present, along with Mr. Tony Hall and Ms. Stephanie Sipple.

Attorney Roxanne Sosnowski called the 1st Witness to the podium, Police Officer Austin Richards. Officer Richards has been a Patrol Officer for the Cherry Valley Police Department for 1 1⁄2 Years. Officer Richards stated the events that occurred on October 4, 2019 at the Cherry Bowl while he was on duty.

Attorney Sosnowski called the 2nd Witness to the podium, Police Officer Andy Paulson. Officer Paulson has been a Patrol Officer for the Cherry Valley Police Department for 2 Years. Officer Paulson stated the events that occurred on October 4, 2019 at the Cherry Bowl while he was on duty.

Mr. Don Sommer thanked Officer Richards and Officer Paulson for being there on October 4, 2019. Mr. Tony Hall was sworn in and read a prepared statement from the Cherry Bowl regarding the events that occurred on and up to October 4, 2019. Ms. Stephanie Sipple was sworn in and gave testimony regarding the events that occurred on October 4, 2019.

Trustee Belt stated that a plan or something needs to be put in place, like surveillance and not to wait until something else happens.

Trustee Hollembeak is concerned about the safety of these events. She commended the Cherry Valley Police Officers that were present at the Cherry Bowl on October 4, 2019.

President Claeyssen re-stated that the Cherry Bowl needs to have a plan in place so this does not happen again; safety should be the highest concern and priority of the Cherry Bowl. President Claeyssen stated that the Village of Cherry Valley has five (5) days for a ruling, however there is no intention of revoking or suspending their liquor licenses for this violation but a fine is in order.

ADJOURNMENT: Trustee Hollembeak moved to adjourn the Liquor Commission Meeting at 6:50 PM. Trustee Belt seconded. All “Aye”; none opposed. Motion carried by voice vote.
