Chicago residents will have the opportunity to learn about community engagement at the third annual City Civics Day, scheduled for Saturday, November 15. The event is free and aims to provide practical strategies for improving neighborhoods through collaboration with local government.

City Civics Day 2025 is co-hosted by the Chicago Department of Planning & Development (DPD) and the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events (DCASE). It will feature panel discussions and workshops led by community leaders and experts on topics such as transportation, historic preservation, public art, green space, animal care, and other neighborhood concerns.

“This event helps residents and businesses to plug-in to effective community improvement strategies that they can take home and implement with neighbors and other like-minded individuals,” said DPD Commissioner Ciere Boatright.

“City Civics Day invites Chicagoans to discover the many resources our city programs and departments offer, combining civic responsibility and creative culture,” said Acting DCASE Commissioner Kenya Merritt. “We hope this event inspires residents to get involved and help shape the future of their city."

For the first time, City Civics Day will be held on Chicago’s South Side at the University of Chicago’s David Rubenstein Forum at 1201 E. 60th St., from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program includes panels, art-making activities, a workshop focused on community safety, and a complimentary lunch.

Attendees interested in participating can register through Eventbrite. Additional details about the schedule are available at Chicago.gov/CityCivicsDay.
