Paul Vallas, former Chicago Public Schools CEO and a prominent political figure in Illinois, addressed recent controversies involving Democratic leaders and local officials in a series of tweets posted on November 12 and 13, 2025.
On November 12, Vallas criticized members of his own party for their response to a bipartisan Senate vote. He wrote, "Shame on fellow Democrats, including pompous Gov Pritzker, for their harsh words for Senator Durbin who along with 7 other Dem Senators voted with Republicans to reopen the government. They simply refused to allow federal workers to continue to go without pay and families in https://t.co/zuROFBLIAl".
The following day, Vallas commented on statements made by Alder Byron Sigcho Lopez regarding corporate taxation and community safety. In his tweet dated November 13, he stated: "Alder Byron Sigcho Lopez claims corporations are complicit in financing terrorism in the community and therefore must pay higher taxes. While this is dangerous rhetoric by some who call any opponent terrorists and Nazi’s, it is a mindset by others like the flag-burning Sigcho https://t.co/2Ggt2hnOgh".
Also on November 13, Vallas shared another post containing only a link: "https://t.co/lYhp8hLKdP".
Senator Dick Durbin is the senior U.S. senator from Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker has served as governor since January 2019. The referenced bipartisan Senate vote occurred amid debates over funding that led to temporary government shutdowns in previous years; such shutdowns have often left federal workers without pay until resolutions were reached.
Byron Sigcho Lopez serves as alderman of Chicago’s 25th Ward. Debates around corporate taxation and accusations of complicity in community violence have become points of contention among city officials and activists.
