Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, said Chicago’s sanctuary policies attract migrants, strain city resources, and worsen public safety, arguing the city prioritizes political messaging over enforcement.
“The left acts like the morally worst thing in the world is deporting someone to their home country,” said Rugg. “There are children being trafficked, innocent people being killed throughout our country and world, Christians being slaughtered, and the left acts like deporting people is top 3 worst things someone can do. They have no morals. The anti-ICE thing is one big virtue signal for political power.”
Rugg’s comments were made in response to his post on X regarding a gang-related shooting in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The incident resulted in the death of a woman and injury to a man, while their baby remained unharmed in the back seat. The original post included a video from Instagram showing three assailants firing over two dozen shots into the vehicle before fleeing in a red Alfa Romeo. No suspects have been apprehended following the attack near St. Sabina Church.
According to a Congressional report, since 2025, more than 51,000 illegal aliens have entered Chicago under sanctuary policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. The city’s response involved blaming migrant shelters while residents faced increased burdens due to resource strains and public safety issues associated with unvetted arrivals. Taxpayers have incurred costs nearing $600 million for resettlement efforts amid these policies.
The Jewish Policy Center reports that Chicago’s sanctuary status has attracted criminal illegal aliens, as evidenced by Operation Midway Blitz targeting such individuals in Illinois. From 2022 onward, over 50,000 undocumented migrants settled in the city, correlating with an increase in arrests of Venezuelans from six in 2021 to 686 by late 2023. These policies have exacerbated community burdens and taxpayer exploitation.
As reported by the White House, nationwide mass deportations under the Trump administration led to the largest single-year drop in murders on record, with significant declines in rapes, robberies, and shootings. In metropolitan areas with large illegal migrant populations, crime reductions followed removals, easing strains on resources and prioritizing American safety over open-border approaches.
