Garnering kudos from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), the city of Galesburg recently received a Certificate of Achievement for its fiscal year 2015 annual report — the sector’s highest honor.
Gloria Osborn, finance and information systems director for the city of Galesburg, was presented with the award as the city official in charge of preparing the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) document.
"The quality of governmental accounting and financial reporting provided by the Finance Department is evident in the numerous times they have been recognized for this honor," City Manager Todd Thompson said. "The city is proud to have such highly qualified members on our team that continually strive for excellence in their area of expertise."
Criteria for the award consist of meeting rigorous requirements: evidencing a “spirit of full disclosure” is paramount to the organization, the city website stated.
“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Galesburg government spokespersons via the city’s website.
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association with approximately 17,500 finance professional members nationwide. It operates offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
