DHL recently opened a $10 million global gateway facility at O'Hare International Airport that is expected to bring dozens of new jobs.
A news release from the city said the gateway built by the express-services provider is 54,000 square feet and will allow DHL Express to process more than 4,500 parcels an hour. The 75 new jobs that will come with the new facility will include training and office personnel, and import and export agents.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel was part of the facility's grand opening, which was held Oct. 25.
“DHL’s expansion in Chicago, which brings new economic activity and jobs to our city, is a direct result of our investments to make O’Hare a top global gateway for air cargo operations,” Emanuel said at the opening of the facility, according to the release. “The world’s leading companies like DHL are investing in Chicago because O’Hare provides the best connectivity to markets around the globe and has the capacity to keep growing for many years to come.”
DHL already had facilities at O'Hare that employ 500 workers.
