Kessem website's facts page focuses on Martwick

Vote13

Chicago police officer Ammie Kessem is running in the Republican primary in the 19th House District, and she has some pointed things to say about the Democrat incumbent, Rep. Robert Martwick, she is hoping to unseat.

A new resource on Kessem's website includes a "facts page" showing some of Martwick's liabilities in the race.

One of her accusations is that Marwick did not properly fill out sources of income in campaign filings.

Noting money that Martwick, a lawyer, gets from his consultancy, Kessem also names Cook County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Berrios as a client.

Citing watchdog coverage of Martwick's contention that the campaign forms in question were hard to understand, Kessem suggests that instead, these omissions are part of a pattern of "unethical or incompetent" behavior.

Kessem also talks about Martwick being out of touch with the voters.

Another suggestion on Kessem's page is that Martwick looks out for his own interests but does not take into account challenges met by some of his constituents in earning a living. In particular, Kessem explains how making money from handling aspects of property tax assessments can be seen as a major conflict of interest for a legislator. She mentions Berrios' role as Cook County assessor as an example of Martwick's politically connected law firm manipulating property tax bills to make money.

Martwick is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Jeff Laporte.
