Davidsmeyer questions effectiveness of creating a firearms awareness task force
Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) said a proposed gun-violence related task force is just another chance for Democrats to grab a headline.
During House debate Feb. 28 on the proposed resolution, HR648, sponsored by Rep. La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago), which would reconstitute the Firearm Public Awareness Task Force, was not well received by Davidsmeyer, who said it was about restricting Second Amendment rights and not about addressing real gun violence.
“We do a lot of task forces and it ends up being a great headline for anybody who is doing it, but do they ever accomplish anything?” Davidsmeyer asked.
Ford said it has with concealed carry weapons and it will make a difference again.
“Why not go head, but I don’t think it is going to fix anything,” Davidsmeyer said before urging a "no" vote, saying the task force is not looking at what really needs to be addressed.
The resolution was adopted on a 88-24 vote.
