Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) said a proposed gun-violence related task force is just another chance for Democrats to grab a headline.
During House debate on the proposed resolution, HR648 was not well received by Davidsmeyer, who said it was about restricting Second Amendment rights and not about addressing real gun violence.
Sponsored by Rep. La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago), the measure would reconstitute the Firearm Public Awareness Task Force.
“We do a lot of task forces and it ends up being a great headline for anybody who is doing it, but do they ever accomplish anything?” Davidsmeyer asked. “Why not go ahead, but I don’t think it is going to fix anything."
Davidsmeyer urged a "no" vote, saying the task force is not looking at what really needs to be addressed.
The resolution was adopted on a 88-24 vote.
