Chicago CityMayor's Office issued the following announcement on May 7.
"I urge members of the Illinois House of Representatives to vote in favor of SJRCA 4. Ratifying the federal Equal Rights Amendment is the next step in a long journey towards women's rights, equality and justice. It is past time close the gender wage gap, stop discrimination against pregnant women and mothers in the workplace, and end disparities in access to health care across the country. Illinois taking this step is important and over 35 years past due."
