Advocate Trinity Hospital issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.
Two Advocate Lutheran General Hospital patients received a generous donation from nonprofit Weish4Ever, The Andrew Weishar Foundation, which is dedicated to providing financial relief to families with adolescents or young adults battling cancer.
The organization partners with medical staff like Lutheran General Bone Marrow Transplant nurse navigator Michelle Logli to identify patients and families, such as Alena Crowe and Kyle Kollar at Lutheran. Each received a check for $5,000, a goodie bag, a plaque and shirt.
Since Weish4ever began in 2013, it has given grants to more than 170 families, including 53 in 2018.
“Visiting beneficiaries is the hardest part of our mission, but also the most rewarding,” said Weish4Ever Executive Director Angela Mehalek. “Every story is heartbreaking, but all are inspirational.”
