Former state university employee Tucker paid in $41K to pension fund, could collect $446K in retirement

Former state university employee James Tucker, who retired in April 2019, saved $41,025 toward a pension over 11 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Tucker would collect as much as $445,876, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Tucker received $9,372 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Tucker will have already received $49,757 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
