Former teacher Karen Jaros Doria, who retired in May 2018, saved $13,042 toward a pension over 4 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Jaros Doria would collect as much as $173,045, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Jaros Doria received $3,637 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Jaros Doria will have already received $15,215 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
