Former bilingual teacher Martha Vazquez, who retired in May 2018, saved $48,960 toward a pension over 11 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Vazquez would collect as much as $707,112, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

After 4 years of retirement, Vazquez will have already received $62,177 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
