Former teacher Mark Kramer, who retired in October 2018, saved $21,152 toward a pension over 5 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Kramer would collect as much as $776,957, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Kramer received $16,331 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Kramer will have already received $33,152 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
