Former special education worker Elizabeth Chambers, who retired in August 2018, saved $239,021 toward a pension over 30 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Chambers would collect as much as $2.55 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Chambers received $53,660 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Chambers will have already received $284,889 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
