Former elementary teacher Bankovic paid in $15K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $352K in retirement

Former elementary teacher Jelena Bankovic, who retired in March 2019, saved $14,662 toward a pension over 4 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bankovic would collect as much as $352,139, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Bankovic received $7,401 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Bankovic will have already received $15,024 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
