Money 04

Former teacher Dorothy McDaniel, who retired in February 2016, saved $143,983 toward a pension over 30 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, McDaniel would collect as much as $2.05 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes McDaniel received $43,110 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, McDaniel will have already received $180,355 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
