Former substitute teacher Gee paid in $43K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $570K in retirement

Money 01

Former substitute teacher Charlene Gee, who retired in July 2018, saved $43,327 toward a pension over 16 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Gee would collect as much as $570,140, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Gee received $11,983 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Gee will have already received $50,130 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
