Former state university employee Tuleja Lehner paid in $125K to pension fund, could collect $2.26M in retirement

Former state university employee Karen Tuleja Lehner, who retired in April 2018, saved $124,963 toward a pension over 24 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Tuleja Lehner would collect as much as $2.26 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Tuleja Lehner received $47,413 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Tuleja Lehner will have already received $146,548 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
