Former state university employee Reed Trautman paid in $61K to pension fund, could collect $914K in retirement

Former state university employee Karen Reed Trautman, who retired in December 2018, saved $61,152 toward a pension over 19 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Reed Trautman would collect as much as $914,018, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Reed Trautman received $19,212 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Reed Trautman will have already received $80,375 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
