The Commission on Chicago Landmarks held a special meeting on May 16, 2019. The meeting was held at the Cook County Board Room, 118 North Clark Street, Room 569, Chicago, Illinois.

The meeting began at 12:45 p.m.

PHYSICALLY PRESENT:

Jim Houlihan, Vice Chairman

David Reifman, Secretary

Gabriel Dziekiewicz

Juan Moreno

Carmen Rossi

Richard Tolliver

Mary Ann Smith

Ernest Wong

ABSENT: Rafael Leon, Chairman

ALSO PHYSICALLY PRESENT:

Dijana Cuvalo, Architect IV, Department of Planning and Development Lisa Misher, Department of Law, Real Estate and Land Use Division Members of the Public

Vice Chairman Houlihan called the meeting to order.

1. Report from Public Hearing and Final Landmark Recommendation

PILSEN DISTRICT WARD 25

18th Street between Leavitt and Sangamon Streets, and 13 blocks bounded by 18th Street to the north, Ashland Avenue to the west, 21st Street to the south, and Racine Avenue to the east

Public Hearing held Wednesday, April 24, 2019 City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A 9:30 a.m.

Hearing Officer: Commissioner Ernest Wong

Dijana Cuvalo presented background information. Matt Crawford presented the report. The Hearing Officer, Commissioner Wong, presented his findings from the Public Hearing. Discussion and public comments followed. Resolution to adopt Final Landmark Recommendation to City Council for the Pilsen Historic District.

Motioned by Reifman, seconded by Smith. Approved unanimously (8-0).

2. Report from Public Hearing and Final Decision on Permit Applications for the Demolition of a Building Pursuant to §2-120-740 through §2-120-825 of the Municipal Code

Commissioner Reifman recused himself.

Public Hearing held Wednesday, April 24, 2019 City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A 9:30 a.m.

Hearing Officer: Commissioner Ernest Wong

Commissioner Wong presented the findings and recommendation. Vote on the resolution to adopt the Hearing Officer’s proposed “Findings and Conclusions” in their entirety as the “Findings and Conclusions” of the Commission to disapprove the permit applications to demolish the buildings at 1730, 1732 and 1734 W. 18th Street.

Motion by Moreno, seconded by Dziekiewicz to disapprove the demolition permit for 1730 W. 18th Street. Approved (6-1).

Motion by Tolliver, seconded by Moreno to disapprove the demolition permit for 1732 W. 18th Street. Approved (6-1).

Motion by Smith, seconded by Dziekiewicz to disapprove the demolition permit for 1734 W. 18th Street. Approved (6-1).

3. Adjournment

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:50 p.m.

Motioned by Smith, seconded by Moreno. Approved unanimously (7-0).
