City of Wheaton Historic Commission met September 17. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order


     The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

     Present: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Steph McGrath (Secretary), Linda Moran, Bob Purdy, Andrew Welker

     Absent: Emelie Engling

     Public Comments Samantha Bauman

II. Approval of Minutes

     Minutes of the August 20, 2019 meeting were approved on a motion by Bob, seconded by Linda and passed unanimously.

III. Old Business

     A. Downtown RR depot marker--awaiting review of the DCHM R&R form to see if can alter photo.

     B. CA&E RR downtown station marker text handed out.

     C. Reviewed Wheaton Register application for 218 N Ellis Ave. Needs tax records to verify construction date, and more detail/clarification on historical significance. Would also be good to check with Wheaton College re missionary housing and Wheaton Illinoian newspaper. D. 534 W Roosevelt Rd--coffee with council had multiple public commenters. Update and discussion on opportunity area, Section 8 housing, current public housing trends and This Place Matters campaign.

     E. Discussed updating Pride in Preservation signs with tag line, or replace with new slogan. Need to see what costs would be.

     F. Home history research dates set. The research sessions will be held on 10/26/19 and 10/29/19.

IV. New Business

     A. Adams Park upgrades being funded with state grant money; City needs help verifying historical significance to satisfy the state.

     B. 404 N Main, landmarked Victorian painted lady has been repainted and put on the market.

     C. Theosophical Society applying for grant to restore a mural and needs community involvement.

     D. Downtown Design Review Board met to discuss 104 N Hale request to stucco over brick.

V. Commissioner Comments

     - Nancy - History bike ride this Saturday. Toms Price building will combine furniture sales area and some College Church use.

VI. Adjournment

     Bob moved to adjourn, Andrew seconded, passed unanimously, the meeting concluded at 8:50 pm.
