II. Chair Report

Reported that Doug Jones will no longer be participating with the WBAC due to personal obligations.

Reported that we reached out to the Wheaton North High School Key Club to discuss students volunteering for our summer events and haven’t heard back. Will look to try and continue to secure some volunteers for our events

Reported that on January 29th, we will be speaking to the Rotary Club at Cantigny Golf Course for Councilman John Rutledge. Opening it up for anyone who was interested in attending as well.

III. Ongoing Business:

WBAC Policies & Ordinances (Laurel Salvador) – Laurel Salvador was not in attendance for this month’s meeting but we discussed the changes to Brighton Drive. The commission voted to have the city use sharrows for this project and Dan Dlhy will email John Duguay about those changes.

WBAC Programs (Alyse Kondrat) – Alyse Kondrat reported that she had approximately 500 bicycle maps printed out. Discussed options of where to pass out the maps to the Wheaton residents. Alyse also had a great spreadsheet created that she had for the Bicycle Festival and the notes for that will be under the Bicycle Festival heading.

WBAC Network (Commission) – No discussion regarding this topic

Bicycle Festival / 4th of July Event Discussion – Alyse Kondrat created a wonderful spreadsheet with a list of items that she secured from the Downtown Wheaton Association and we discussed and ran through the list to see if we believe if we are able to handle putting on the event ourselves. There were a couple of action items for Dan Dlhy to find out what our 2020 budget will be and also to find out about getting Emergency Plan & Insurance. I will reach out to the city for this issue. Also discussed trying to find a different location for the event in case Memorial Park will not be available. Options would be Central Park and we liked the option so that the parade could be around the park instead of having the Police Department close off roads. Also brought up the option of partnering with other organizations such as the Wheaton Park District for their assistance in running the event. Michelle Dunlap will reach out to her contact at the Park District to discuss. The commission also voted on participating in the 4th of July Parade. Our vote was for NOT participating in the 4th of July Parade. Also discussed dates for our ride and we were looking at the first or second weekend in August as we will need that amount of time to prepare and complete everything.

Wayfinding Sign Discussion – Michelle Dunlap reported that she emailed the needed changes for the incorrect placement of signs to the city officials and is waiting to hear back.

Brighton Avenue Project - The commission voted to have the city use sharrows for this project and Dan Dlhy will email John Duguay about those changes.

History Ride – We briefly discussed the options for the theme for this year’s ride and Michelle Dunlap will invite Nancy Flannery from the Wheaton Historical Preservation Society to our next meeting to start the discussion and planning for the event.

2020 Budget – Dan Dlhy will confirm our budget for this upcoming year as that will help us plan for our events and needs.
