Brendan Reilly, alderman for downtown Chicago’s 42nd Ward, announced his endorsement of Bill Conway for Illinois State’s Attorney on Feb. 27 in response to a CWBChicago tweet of a story about a man who was charged with armed carjacking less than a month after he was released on his own recognizance in another issue.
“Tired of headlines like these and want criminals held accountable?" Reilly tweeted. "Take a good look at this year’s judicial candidates, their bar ratings and qualifications. We also need a state’s attorney interested in putting violent criminals behind bars. I’m supporting Bill Conway.
Reilly has been a member of the Chicago City Council for 13 years, and he represents Chicago’s Central Business District.
Bill Conway is a Progressive Democrat who calls for a fairer, safer criminal justice system.
“I’ll end the special treatment for the rich and well connected," Conway said in a campaign video. "I’ll stop locking up nonviolent people. And I won’t just talk about the gun epidemic – I’ll take on the NRA and the illegal guns that flood our streets. It’s time for a new way,” Conway said.
Conway was born and raised in Chicago and served as a Cook County assistant state’s attorney. He also worked in the Public Corruption and Financial Crimes Unit.
He also served in Qatar and Afghanistan as a Naval intelligence officer, where he worked to track and cut off the supply chains that the Taliban depended on to attack U.S. troops.
He teaches finance at DePaul University and lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter.
