Metra train service will return to alternate weekday schedules today after operating on a modified schedule through the weekend due to protest rallies and demonstrations.
Starting today, limited weekday services will be available on the SouthWest Service, North Central Service and Heritage Corridor. Schedules are available on its website.
Metra says on its website that it is monitoring the number of riders and will add cars or trains as needed to ensure room for social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With protest rallies and demonstrations continuing to pop up around the state stemming from the recent George Floyd police killing in Minnesota, officials chose to limit Sunday train service with fewer feature trains than normal over the weekend. Final trains both in and out of downtown Chicago on all impacted train lines were canceled, according to the agency.
Metra officials added more schedule changes could be forthcoming based on “if protests or other disturbances become a factor.”
