City of Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission met July 22.
Here is the minutes provided by the commission:
I. Call to Order
Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:05pm
Attendees: Dan Dlhy, Michelle Dunlap, Bill Nieman, Rita Nathanson, Nancy Allured, Alyse Kondrat, Laurel Salvador
Approval of Minutes: The Commission approved the minutes from our February meeting. Public Comment: None
II. Chair Report
Carrie Provost – Moving out of Wheaton and handed in her resignation from the WBAC.
Commission Position Elections – Opened up the topic of allowing a vote to see if anyone was interested in taking over the chair position. Everyone declined.
New Commission Members – Talked about how to generate more members for the commission and thought about having the City of Wheaton post an advertisement in their newsletter.
III. Ongoing Business:
Way Finding Signage – Michelle Dunlap reported that there was no communication from the city of
Wheaton on the updates that need to be done to correct the signs that are misleading to locations.
History Ride – Michelle Dunlap heads up this sub-committee and confirmed the date of September 26th for the ride. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the commission voted to make the ride virtual. The theme for this year’s ride is Mid-Century Modern Homes. The idea of reaching out to the Downtown Wheaton Association to get some assistance in promoting the event. We were going to reach out to the city to see if they would be able to record a Podcast of the audio for this year’s ride. Will put these plans into action for this year’s ride.
Bicycle Plan Update - The Commission discussed the Bicycle Plan – it was created back in 2012 – and trying to decide on how to make changes to it instead of creating a brand-new plan. The issue could be funds as it would be expensive to either update the current plan or create a brand-new plan and with the pandemic the funds could be sparse. It was discussed to reach out to ATA and Ride Illinois to see if there are grants that could help fund a new bicycle plan. Laurel Salvador reported that the City of Elmhurst created a new plan and she will talk with the Elmhurst Bicycle Club to get more information and possibly invite an EBC member to our next month’s meeting.
Various Issues – Need to reach out to John Duguay to discuss the Bicycle Repair station that was scheduled to be added to a park off the Prairie Path in Downtown Wheaton. The Commission was also looking for more information on the Cities decision about the underpass by Roosevelt & Wheaton Avenues. Bill Nieman will forward out the Dupage County Survey for those that did not fill that out previously.
