A vehicle registered to former Chicago Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno reportedly smashed into several parked cars before crashing into a tree on Sunday, according to a CPD report.
While police did not disclose the identity of the driver, CPD announced that the driver, a 48-year-old man, crashed into several parked cars and then into a tree before coming to a stop at the 1200 block of North Astor at approximately 9:21 p.m. The driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was listed as stable and in good condition. The police said that no other injuries were reported.
According to a statement by CPD, alcohol was involved and there are charges pending.
In 2019, Moreno was charged with a felony for allegedly filing a false report that someone had stolen his Audi from the garage of his home in Wicker Park. Police later discovered that the vehicle in question had actually been loaned to a female friend.
In addition, Moreno is accused of insurance fraud after he allegedly tried to collect payment on the stolen car.
The criminal case is still underway. Murano has pleaded not guilty.
The woman who was arrested and charged with driving this “stolen” Audi that Moreno had loaned to her proceeded to sue Marano for defamation.
Another troubling incident occurred in 2018 when another woman reported that Moreno flashed a badge at her during a dispute over a parking spot in Wrigleyville.
According to the woman, she had backed into a parking spot when Moreno pulled up next to her and flashed a badge in an attempt to intimidate her. It was later discovered that the badge was the star given to Chicago aldermen.
