The voice of lodging in Illinois, the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association, is not silent about Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s proposed tax increase. It is objecting to the governor’s idea and jointly opposing it with other Illinois business groups.
The group appealed to Pritzker after his proposal to preserve state revenue by decoupling from the CARES Act.
“We urge the Governor and legislature to reject this massive tax increase at a time when thousands of small businesses across the entire state are struggling to stay afloat during a pandemic and government-imposed shutdowns,” the group said, the Washington Examiner reported. “This will have a dramatic impact on every aspect of business, including some of our most decimated industries. We understand the desire to find revenue, but this is the opposite of an ‘all-in’ approach.”
The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association advocates favorable policy for the hotel industry at local, state, and federal levels. It supports its members on matters that can potentially impact the success of Illinois hotels.
The association, “with full-time lobbying efforts in municipalities, Springfield, and D.C.,” is able to “protect the hotel industry and keeps hospitality businesses in the forefront.”
Currently, IHLA is engaged in various legislative issues including discussions on COVID-19 economic recovery.
