Signature Bank Chicago sent an email to customers to distance itself from Signature Bank New York after the New York bank closed high-profile accounts belonging to former President Donald Trump.
“In light of recent news regarding the closure of high-profile accounts at Signature Bank New York, we wanted to reiterate that Signature Bank Chicago is not affiliated in any way with Signature Bank New York,” the email said. “We are locally-owned and operated right here in Chicago and we plan to stay that way.”
The bank said it wanted to continue to serve all of its customers.
“Our philosophy is, and always has been, to welcome all customers no matter their political affiliation or voting record,” the email said. “In sum, we want your business.”
The bank said it was grateful for that opportunity.
“As a reminder, we are closed on Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King’s birthday. As we honor his life, we think about his words, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” the email said. “In that spirit, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve all our customers and provide support to our community through philanthropic efforts, particularly during these challenging times for our nation.”
Last week, two banks — Deutsche Bank and Signature Bank New York — announced they would sever their accounts with Trump in light of the riots at the U.S Capitol.
Signature Bank New York released a statement regarding the closure of Trump's accounts to NBC News.
"Signature Bank (New York) began the process to close President Trump’s personal accounts," Susan Turkell, a company spokesperson, said in a statement to NBC News. "Signature Bank (New York) pledges it will not do business in the future with any members of Congress who voted to disregard the Electoral College.”
