AUSTIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: West Side Nonprofit To Celebrate Women’s History Month March 8

Austin Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Mar. 5. 

A West Side nonprofit is celebrating Women’s History Month with a massive virtual panel featuring prominent West Side women.

In a statement, Bethel officials said the purpose of the event is to “highlight the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society,” to “acknowledge great women who are accomplishing great things,” to “spotlight women who are forging change and transforming lives every day,” and to “celebrate our rich relationships and the future.”

The webinar will also feature a performance by the Move Me Soul-Dance Company, as well as a panel of local women who have influenced life on the West Side and throughout the city, Bethel officials said.

Chairmane V. Rickette, the West Side business woman who owns Uncle Remus Saucy Fried Chicken, will moderate the panel. Rickette is also co-chair of the Austin African American Business Networking Association and a media personality.

Panelists will include Mary Nelson, the president emeritus of Bethel New Life; state Rep. Camille Y. Lilly (78th); Ald. Emma Mitts (37th), the chairwoman of West Side Black Elected Officials; Melissa Conyears-Ervin, the treasure of the city of Chicago; and Deborah Wiliams, the secretary of the Leaders Network; among others.

The webinar, which is free to the public, will take place on Monday, March 8, 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m. Register at: http://bethelwomenshistory.eventbrite.com/. The Zoom link will be sent to all registrants, Bethel officials said.
